I made as my primary contribution to my partner's Thanksgiving family dinner and our Friendsgiving on the 29th, a delicious, beautiful, incredible pie.
Caramel. Apple. Pecan. Pie.
It's beautiful. It combines the beautiful texture of pecans with the sweet-tart balance of apples. Normally, pecan pie is too corn-syrup sweet to enjoy more than a few bites of, and apple pie is tart and lovely, but has a boring texture that easily becomes tiresome. With this pie, you get balanced sweetness with a refreshing tart zing, and the crunch and mouthfeel of pecans. It's a brilliant duet! I'm intending on making it next year and every time after. My only question is how to get around to learning how to make a decent pie crust... I used storebought this time, which was fine, but I think a fresh pie crust, flaky and buttery, would really take the cake. Or rather, the pie.
